GitHub CoPilot application workshop

EWERK is a German IT company serving more than 600 customers across Europe and specializing in providing secure digital solutions for critical infrastructure operators. The company’s main goal is to provide high-quality IT services to industries that require reliability and precision.

The client decided to explore the capabilities of AI tools to make its work more efficient. One of the challenges the IT team faced was the cumbersome and time-consuming creation of unit tests, integration tests and technical documentation — tasks often put off due to project pressures.

I decided to attend the workshop on GitHub Copilot to learn how I can speed up our work and what new opportunities this tool can bring. — EWERK team member

To help the client overcome programming challenges, we conducted a hands-on workshop to introduce the client’s team to the world of GitHub Copilot, an AI tool that supports programming. The workshop took place on November 6, 2024 and included:

• Discussing the capabilities of GitHub Copilot — presenting features that can support the daily work of developers.
• Demo of Copilot’s basic functions — discussing best practices in using the tool to maximize its potential.
• Practical workshop — exercises in which programmers could see live how Copilot supports code development, by:
  — Generate and improve unit tests and integration tests.
  — Create technical documentation with minimal time investment.
  — Using AI tool suggestions to refactor code.

The workshop was very positively received by the client’s team. Participants especially appreciated the opportunity to test GitHub Copilot on real code, as it allowed them to immediately see the benefits of using the tool in everyday tasks.

What I liked most about the workshop was the insight into real code, not just theoretical discussion. This allows me to really save time by eliminating repetitive tasks such as creating tests or documentation. — EWERK team member
