The BEST Hacks hackathon 2020 organized by the student’s organization BEST Wroclaw at the Wroclaw University of Technology took place on 24 – 25 October 2020. Positive emotions connected with the event are still with us, and that's why it’s time to summarize them.
As a software company, and me as its CEO, we are happy that we had an opportunity to get to know future programmers – students of the Wroclaw University of Technology and to share our knowledge with them, give our tips, because we know how big of an impact on the innovations the young generation has. We want to share our experience in the new tech area, showing proper career paths. That’s why it is so important for us to direct our communication also to students, in the future they will certainly be welcomed in our company.
VM.PL developers as participants' mentors
For students of the Wroclaw University of Technology it was not only the opportunity for checking their programming skills, but also showing their readiness to face the competition’s problem. The task was difficult – create a solution, which will help reduce the climatic disaster referring to air pollution and the greenhouse – gas emissions. The participants of the competition could count on the VM.PL’s mentors’ support – experienced developers with many years of work experience in the industry, who willingly answered the questions about the technology. Our company was represented by the excellent specialists – Paweł and Christian who cooperate with us for a long time, and Piotr, who joined us recently. I had that pleasure watching the presentations, evaluating and choosing the winners as a member of the jury which consisted also of the representatives of other companies. I was impressed by the fact, that some of the participants presented almost ready products. As the main sponsor we donated also prizes for the winners.
We break down communication barriers
To further strenghten the message of support for young people starting their adventure with the IT world, VM.PL team organized a discussion panel on the beginnings of a career in the IT industry. The discussion was about how to start and find yourself as a young programmer on the job market, or what is the advantage of working in a software house, compared to working in a corporation or a start-up. We also tried to pay attention to learning languages – especially German, which, combined with knowledge of modern technologies, give an incomparable advantage during the recruitment process. In VM.PL we provide our employees with regular language training and cyclic intensive courses to make them feel comfortable communicating with customers and co – workers from abroad. We know that if the project was to fail, it would only be because of communication reasons and cultural differences. We are therefore working hard to strengthen our employees in these areas.
We are constantly taking care of the company's development, we are setting ourselves new challenges and we are already thinking about another cooperation with BEST Wroclaw and the Wroclaw University of Technology. We are proud that the students have made such professional resolutions. Hopefully we will meet with them again soon.
